If you have been considering orthodontic treatment, you might want to think about Invisalign®. This system of clear aligners used to straighten the teeth is just as effective as traditional metal braces but is much more comfortable and easier to use. We are proud to offer this treatment at Universal Dental in Universal City, TX.
Like with traditional braces, which move the teeth by applying gentle but constant pressure, the Invisalign system gradually changes the position of the teeth until they are in alignment. Instead of doing this using uncomfortable and sometimes painful metal brackets and wires, however, Invisalign utilizes custom-fit aligners that are worn on the teeth and are removable. A new aligner is changed out approximately every week as the teeth slowly move along the gumline.
You will need a consultation with our dentist at Universal Dental, who is certified and experienced in providing the Invisalign treatment. Once it has been determined that your misalignment issues can successfully be treated with the Invisalign system, your dentist will take detailed measurements of your teeth and possibly also make an impression of them. A treatment plan will be created to map out the movement of your teeth. You should be able to preview the final result as a part of this treatment plan.
In order to successfully complete the treatment, you will be required to wear each aligner for at least 20 hours a day. It’s recommended that you take the aligners out only when eating and to clean (both your teeth and the aligners themselves). You will need to visit us at Universal Dental occasionally for check-up appointments so that we can ensure that your Invisalign treatment in Universal City, TX is progressing as expected. We can make adjustments as needed. Once treatment is complete (the average treatment time is 12 months), you will need to wear a retainer to prevent the teeth from returning to their original positions.
Many patients prefer the Invisalign system over other options in orthodontics because they are much more comfortable. This results in less damage done to the soft tissues of the mouth. Because they are removable, they are also easier to use. Talk to your dentist about your options. Invisalign might be your best option for a more attractive smile.
